The cheapest bug is the one your pre-commit hook catches. v1.2’s PIE and console tools make an automated smoke test a one-liner.
The loop
pie.start / pie.end, pie.execute_console_command, and the console.* stat readers (get_stat_inc_average, get_stat_exc_max, and more) cover the whole cycle. The quick-pie-test recipe wraps it: save, start PIE, run a command, capture stats, tear down, report.
Run a quick PIE test on the current level with stat fps, and fail if average frame time is over 16 ms.
Wire it into CI
Because every call runs over a local MCP server, the same prompt-driven test can run from a script — a pre-commit hook, or a CI step that gates the merge on a clean PIE run.
